This poem came to me the morning after Sam passed on. He was a noble animal. I called him "Sam I Am" and "My first-born son." He was the protective "big brother" to Sara, the little dog we had found on the street. Cat, initially terrified of him, became a staunch buddy.
Sam had a peaceful passing. I lit the lavender candle the night before, and again in the morning. The house was filled with the music of Mozart's Requiem . He lay in his favorite place in the living room on a soft wool blanket eating hamburger, Sara nearby.
Sam left his presence with me and his pain is gone.
